The world's largest shipping show returns after 4 years

After a 4-year absence, the world's largest shipping exhibition, the Greek Poseidon International Maritime Exhibition (Posidonia 2022), officially returns and will be held at the Athens Metropolitan Expo Center from June 6th to June 10th.

This is the second biennial Poseidon Maritime Exhibition held in Greece after 2018. Previously, the 2020 Poseidon Maritime Exhibition was finally cancelled after a delay due to the epidemic. This year's Poseidon Maritime Exhibition is hosted by the Hellenic Ministry of Shipping, the Hellenic Shipowners' Union and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, with the support of the Piraeus Municipal Government and the Hellenic Shipping Cooperation Council. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis and Deputy Foreign Minister Varvitsiotis Miltiadis attended the opening ceremony on June 6.

Mitsotakis addressed the 800 guests who attended the opening ceremony of the Poseidon International Maritime Exhibition. He praised the huge contribution of the Greek shipping industry to the Greek national economy, providing a 7% share of GDP and creating about 200,000 jobs for Greeks. He revealed that he had written to the President of the European Commission von der Leyen, calling on the other side to make the shipping industry a priority for Europe: firstly, to strengthen the research and development of compatible technologies and alternative fuels, as well as the sustainable development of the environment, economy and ship safety; secondly, Review European legislation to ensure a level playing field in the transport sector; third, the distribution of revenue from the European Emissions Trading Scheme, especially from maritime trade, to be equitable among member states; fourth, the application of the "polluter pays" principle , it is the responsibility of the operator rather than the owner.
